Metis in 2025 - A ReGenesis of Metis

ReGenesis is a bold transformation, and this is just the start. Over the next 6 weeks, we will unveil its components step by step, culminating in the full reveal at ETHDenver. This week, we’re sharing a first look at the tech roadmap and our focus on a key industry vertical. Let’s take a look at how we got here and where we’re headed.

From Trailblazers to Visionaries

Since its inception in 2018, Metis has consistently pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in blockchain technology. Our journey is marked by:

• 2018: Visionary Beginnings: Metis was founded as a DAO with a vision to create scalable, efficient, and decentralized blockchain solutions that address Ethereum’s limitations. From the start, we focused on enabling Layer 2 scalability through groundbreaking technology.
• 2021: Launch of Andromeda Network: The release of our Layer 2 network introduced Optimistic Rollups, significantly reducing transaction costs and boosting scalability while maintaining Ethereum’s security. Metis was also the first among all OP-based Layer 2 solutions to launch, showcasing our pioneering spirit and commitment to innovation.
• 2023~2024: Ecosystem Growth and ZKM Development: We expanded our ecosystem to support a diverse range of projects across DeFi, GameFi, and more. Concurrently, we began developing ZKM, a zkVM framework designed to enable hybrid rollups and universal interoperability, solidifying Ethereum as a global settlement layer.
• 2024: Industry’s First Decentralized Sequencer (DSEQ): Recognizing the risks of centralization in existing Layer 2 solutions, we developed and implemented the industry’s first decentralized sequencer, setting new standards for governance and decentralization.
• 2024: DSEQ Reboot Program: Launched in December, this program reinforced Metis’ infrastructure with performance-based rewards, preparing us for the ambitious ReGenesis initiative.

These milestones reflect our unwavering commitment to decentralization, innovation, and ecosystem growth.

Solving Ethereum’s Scaling Dilemma

Ethereum is the backbone of decentralized applications, but it still faces significant challenges: high fees and network congestion are major roadblocks to mainstream adoption. While other Layer 2 solutions exist, many rely on centralized components, which compromise blockchain’s core principles.

The core problems faced by Ethereum are as follows:

1. Scalability & throughput constraints
2. High gas fees
3. Data availability & Security trade-offs

As the blockchain industry grows and Ethereum struggles to scale, it’s clear that Metis must step up to fill the gap.

We are enhancing our technology to deliver unmatched performance for users and developers. Specifically, we’ve learned our lessons from Ethereum’s troubles, and are ensuring that we solve the three problems addressed above:

• Andromeda Upgrades: Improvements to network performance, including faster transactions and enhanced data availability, lowered gas fees, all while maintaining decentralization.
• Performance-Driven Roadmap: A new rollout tailored for projects that demand high throughput without compromising decentralization, to be revealed at ETHDenver.

2. Targeting Key Verticals

We’re narrowing our focus to specific industries where Metis can create the most value. This ensures we’re the go-to platform for these verticals while continuing to support our diverse ecosystem. Our goal is to build a thriving environment where projects can grow and succeed.

• Our tech will be aligned to deliver everything that our focuses need and more. Built with their needs in mind, we will set the stage for the next evolution of Metis.
• Promising projects along our focuses will be heavily incubated and integrated into the Metis ecosystem at their full potential, driving growth and setting the infrastructure to build on.

Sneak Peek at Our Primary Focus: AI

We’re positioning Metis as a leader in the next big blockchain narrative: AI. The industry has seen the potential of AI due to the great synergies offered by blockchain and artificial intelligence. Despite blockchain technology lagging behind the needs of AI, we’ve seen explosive growth in AI agents, and still have many applications left to see.

With the coming tech roadmap, we will not only capture the AI market’s imagination with all the latent potential, but also drive innovation and novel solutions by providing a playground teeming with potential, along with our incubated projects providing the innovative solutions to get things started.
