Metis Layer 2 Alpha Testnet Goes Live!

After long hours of working on the more powerful protocol, we have rolled out the Metis alpha testnet and our demo app today. Metis Rollup, a scalable Layer 2 solution, will make it cheaper and faster to build decentralized businesses and DApps on the blockchain.

No matter if you are an existing blockchain developer or a Web 2.0 developer with limited blockchain experience, Metis allows for easy building on our layer 2 Optimistic Rollup. Based on the spirit of Optimistic Rollup, our highly scalable, low-cost, and fully functional Layer 2 framework (Metis Rollup) will fully support the application and business migration from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0. Its scalable protocol supports a wide range of use cases including yield farming, DEX trading, Social Community Economy, Open Source Projects, and powering the gig economy via DApps that offer cheap and fast micropayments.

In our new demo app, decentralized business creators can easily manage their communities among distrustful community members, use different tools (ComCo Framework) to manage community activities, and also enable community members to gain incentives and build reputation power based on their contributions.

Metis’ Layer 2 alpha testnet gives builders the opportunity to experiment with some showcase features of Metis ahead of the Layer 2’s mainnet launch. Builders can feel secure in building their business on top of the Metis Optimistic Rollup. Most importantly, a DAO that harnesses the power of both Web 3.0 and Layer 2 opens the window for the real-world economy to run on top of the blockchain, which will bring mass adoption to the blockchain and also take blockchain to the main stage.

Rollups entail transactions being batched into a single transaction on Layer 2, before later being broadcast to the main network – Ethereum – to ensure full finality. Leading developers, including Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, have advocated for Rollups as the best solution for scaling Ethereum. On Metis Rollup, an array of possibilities that are impractical to conduct on Layer 1 become available.
