Did you know that you can get Metis testnet tokens by sending Sepolia ETH to the testnet Metis contract directly? Read on to find out how to do this!
Obtaining test tokens in the Metis L2 network is simple and straightforward. You can use our faucet to claim 0.1 test Metis per day, or you can interact with the Metis contracts on your own without restrictions. In this guide we share the steps to complete to follow this last option. There are only a few steps involved:
Let’s start by getting some testnet ETH tokens from a faucet.
Getting ETH on Sepolia can be easily achieved via Ethereum Sepolia Faucet run by Alchemy. All you have to do is have a minimum mainnet balance of 0.001 ETH and paste your wallet on this site.
The next step is to transfer the ETH to the Metis testnet contract.
Once you’ve received the ETH on Sepolia, it’s time to send it to the Metis testnet contract.
The address of the contract is 0x7f49160EB9BB068101d445fe77E17ecDb37D0B47. A warning message will show up, click on "I understand". After confirming the transaction, you’ll soon receive the test Metis tokens. However, to completely have your Metis tokens on the L2, you’ll still need to bridge them from Ethereum to Metis L2.
Before bridging the tokens, however, it’s necessary to add a Metis network to your wallet, either Metis Andromeda (mainnet) or Metis Sepolia (testnet). In order to add Metis Andromeda go to this site, and click on “Add Metis Andromeda” at the bottom of the page. In the opened window click on approve.
The process of adding Metis Sepolia is identical. Go to this page, click on “Add Metis Sepolia Testnet” at the bottom, and approve the addition of the network in the new window. Now let’s proceed with bridging the tokens.
As soon as you receive the test Metis tokens on Sepolia, it will become possible to bridge them to the chosen Metis network. The current exchange ratio is x10 the amount of ETH you send. In order to bridge the tokens, use the official Metis bridge. Make sure to select from Ethereum (Sepolia) to Metis (Sepolia) before confirming.
Completing the bridging process will require you to sign a spending cap request. Sign, and after a short while the test Metis tokens will be available in the wallet.
That’s it! The test tokens on the Metis network are now in your wallet. Next time you need more Metis for testing purposes, simply refer to this guide. Now go and build something great!
