Decentralized Sequencer Upgrade: Phase 2

Metis recently achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution to decentralize its sequencer. Phase 1 of the Decentralized Sequencer upgrade consisted of adding multiple nodes to the sequencer pool, and introducing sequencer rotation, which drastically enhances censorship resistance and liveness in the network. Now, we are ready for Phase 2.

A hard fork will be activated on block 16500000, which is about 7 days from now, completing Phase 2 of the Decentralized Sequencer upgrade. Phase 2 will introduce:

• Multiple transactions within a block
• Transaction pool
• Sequencer Rewards
