Chainlink CCIP Is Now Live on Metis As Its Canonical Cross-Chain Infrastructure

We’re excited to announce that the Chainlink Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) is now live on Metis mainnet as Metis’ canonical cross-chain infrastructure. 

Metis is a permissionless Ethereum layer-2 network and member of Chainlink’s SCALE program. The initial integration features a CCIP lane between Ethereum and Metis, enabling secure cross-chain messaging and transfers of the LINK token. More new lanes between blockchains and additional tokens will be onboarded over time. Going forward, assets transferred to Metis through CCIP will be the canonical version.

Use cases unlocked by CCIP include cross-chain:

• Exchanges—Cross-chain DEXs enable users to execute trades sourcing liquidity from token pools across different blockchains, mitigating the liquidity fragmentation issues of multi-chain DEX deployments.
• Flexibility—Increases token flexibility by enabling seamless movement across blockchains. This allows holders to access a broader range of DeFi protocols beyond their original blockchain ecosystem, maximizing the utility of their staked assets.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
• Lending—Cross-chain loans, where users deposit collateral on one chain and borrow on another, enable users to seamlessly move across the DeFi ecosystem and more easily leverage strategies on Metis.
• DAOs—Enabling DAO voting from across multiple chains can foster greater participation in the protocol’s core governance process, while maintaining onchain transparency. 

Beyond the wide range of cross-chain use cases above, the Metis network is also now supported on Transporter, a hyper-secure bridging app powered by Chainlink CCIP, which enables users to securely transfer tokens to Metis and helps increase the liquidity of assets within the Metis ecosystem. With CCIP-powered dApps such as Transporter, Metis users can expect the ecosystem to grow substantially. 

We selected Chainlink’s industry-standard interoperability solution because it provides level-5 cross-chain security powered by time-tested infrastructure that has enabled over $12 trillion in transaction volume. With additional defence-in-depth features such as the Risk Management Network, CCIP enables Metis developers to build high-performance solutions that attract liquidity and bring more tokenized real-world assets on-chain. CCIP also offers Programmable Token Transfers, a unique feature that allows transferring messages and tokens as part of a single cross-chain transaction.
